History of the In-N-Out Burger Tire Gauge
A customer at In-N-Out Burger Store Number 61 in Vista once asked the manager if he or any of the associates had a tire pressure gauge to test the pressure in his carâs tires. After checking, the manager replied that, unfortunately, neither he nor his associates had a tire gauge for the customer.
The manager at the time was Kelly King, and he cared greatly about our customers. In this instance, Kelly felt he had failed to fulfill the customerâs need. The incident moved him to immediately purchase a tire gauge, which he kept in his shirt pocket from then on. The move was Kellyâs way of showing that a customer would never again have to worry about getting their tire pressure checked.
More than that, if Kelly could help it, no customers would have any of their requests unmet. Keeping a tire pressure gauge in his pocket served as a reminder that the customer is our most important asset. Our job is taking care of them.
Kellyâs reaction to this incident serves as an example of how we at In-N-Out feel when we do not meet customersâ expectations or needs. Weâre moved to do something about it. To the best of our abilities we actively look for solutions. Whatâs unique about this situation is that the customerâs request was a bit unusual. But that did not stop Kelly from doing what he was supposed to doâserve our customers.
